About The Stewardess Bible

Featuring the Author Kylie O'Brien

Hello and thank you for visiting The Stewardess Bible.

My name is Kylie O’Brien, and I am the founder and author of the superyacht stewardess training manual  and the blog ‘The Stewardess Bible’.

About The Stewardess Bible

The Stewardess Bible was created in 2011 during a personal transitional period in my life. I had just retired from an industry that I had worked in for over 12 years.

My life had changed and I was filled with excitement and anticipation for the new life that lay ahead.

So who is Kylie O’Brien and why should you listen to me?

The information that I provide on my blog and in the training manual, is an accumulation of knowlegde that I had learnt from my professional life for the past 20 years.

I first started working in hotels after I left university at the tender age of 21.

My first job was in Japan as a waitress at the Hotel Nikko Sekitei.

As my Japanese language abilities improved I moved into guest services.

After returning to Australia I spent a brief time working for the ANA Hotel Sydney (now known as the Shangri-La Hotel) before I started working for the Hotel Inter Continental Sydney, where I undertook various hotel management courses.

From my position as a middle manager in the conference services department at the Hotel InterContinental, I was ‘head-hunted’ by a leading wedding and event planning company in Sydney where I worked as an event manager for 3 years.

So how did I make the transition from 5 star hotels and events to Super Yachts?

When an old high school friend of mine came home for a holiday.

I always thought my friend was intelligent, but I had no idea about the superyacht industry or what he did as a Superyacht captain.

After a really bad game of tennis followed by a ‘few too many’ glasses of wine, he convinced me to visit Palma de Mallorca and have a look… so I did.

Two weeks later I was on a 30m sailing yacht heading to Antigua and the rest is history.

Since that auspicious crossing, I have worked on some of the world’s most amazing Super/Mega Yachts, ranging from 30 M sailing yachts to 120 M mega yachts.

It has been one of my greatest pleasures working on-board these amazing vessels.

I am truly humbled by the people that I have met, the places that I have seen and I am grateful for the adventures that I have experienced.

Hark; now hear the sailors cry, Smell the sea, and feel the sky. Let your soul & spirit fly, into the mystic…”
